The Centurion Cyclist: Howard Rady's Inspiring Journey with the CyberCycle

At Blue Goji, we are constantly inspired by the incredible stories of those who use our equipment to enhance their lives, but few stories are as remarkable as that of Howard Rady, our Centurion Cyclist. At 100 years old, Howard embodies the spirit of resilience and dedication to staying active, despite the challenges that come with aging. I recently had the honor of visiting Howard in his apartment, where he shared his love for the CyberCycle recumbent bike and how it has become a vital part of his daily routine.

Howard’s journey is one of perseverance and passion. Originally from Nashville, he attended Vanderbilt University before serving in the Navy, where he learned the value of discipline and hard work—qualities that would later help him succeed as an entrepreneur in Dallas, Texas. Howard owned a laundry business, and he often credits his time in the Navy for his entrepreneurial success, as it taught him how to function on little sleep and maintain focus under pressure.

Despite his current health challenges, including severe arthritis and scoliosis, Howard has never lost his zest for life. Though he has shrunk six inches over the years, going from 5’8” to his current height, he remains committed to staying active. For Howard, the CyberCycle is more than just a piece of cardio equipment—it’s a lifeline that keeps him engaged and motivated. When his senior living community decided to remove their cycling equipment in the gym to make room for other activities, Howard didn’t hesitate to buy one himself, ensuring he could continue his cardio workouts in the comfort of his apartment.

Howard’s dedication to fitness is all the more impressive given his rich and varied life experiences. A former semi-professional ballroom dancer, he used to be quick on his feet, gracefully moving across the dance floor. Although he stopped dancing in his early 90s due to balance issues caused by arthritis, he still loves music and often taps his feet to the rhythm. His current hobbies include card making and reading, and he fondly recalls his love of boating from earlier years.

During my visit, I watched Howard as he rode the trails on the CyberCycle, particularly enjoying the Expresso Speedway track. His competitive spirit shone through as he raced against other virtual riders, always striving to beat them and challenge himself. A feature on the CyberCycle allows users to set maximum heart rates, and Howard made good use of this, monitoring his heart rate closely and adjusting his pace when it exceeded the doctor-recommended limit. Even at 100 years old, Howard managed a full 15-minute workout, demonstrating not only his physical strength but also his mental determination.

Howard’s story is a testament to the power of staying active, no matter the obstacles. His daughter, Frances, who was instrumental in setting her father up with his own personal CyberCycle, knew just how much joy the bike would bring him. Watching Howard ride, race, and enjoy his workout was incredibly inspiring—a reminder that age is just a number when it comes to maintaining an active and fulfilling life.

At Blue Goji, we are proud to be part of Howard’s journey and to provide a tools that help him stay engaged, healthy, and happy. His story motivates us to continue our mission of promoting wellness and active aging through innovative fitness solutions. Howard Rady, our Centurion Cyclist, is proof that with the right mindset and the right tools, you can keep moving forward—at any age.

We salute you, Howard!
